This page provides the general policy for what you should and shouldn't do as a wiki contributor.

The policy is subject to change at any time. Please check back periodically.

Content/Editing Policy

The wiki's main goal is to provide as much information as possible on all aspects of Mabinogi. In order to keep the information universal across servers and to provide a safe environment, these policies have been instituted.

Do's

  • Make new pages and expand existing pages.
  • Write pages in the 2nd or 3rd person (Do not use I, we, us, etc. anywhere in an article).
  • Fix spelling/grammar/broken links.
  • Localize everything to the North American server.
  • Use US English instead of the Queen's English (use armor instead of armour, for example).
  • If you're taking information from a source, make sure to link to the source. See the references on Short Sword or Albino King Snake for examples of how to give credit for information.
  • Future content info is okay! Just try to use NA server's localized names when appropriate. Make sure to type " {{FutureContent}} " at the top of the page or section to label it as future content.
    • Also, when adding future items/equipment, please check Category:Future Items to make sure we don't already have it.
  • Nominate bad pages for deletion. To do this, simply type " {{Delete}} " on the page. If you want to add a reason, please use " {{Delete|reason=ReasonGoesHere}} " and put the reason after the "reason=" part.
  • Use the Q&A page to propose formatting or style changes and/or to get feedback on your projects before implementing them.

Don't's

  • Do not add use info from the North American Public Test Server (PTS).
  • Do not use any info that has come from the client files of the game.
  • It is extremely important that you follow both rules above this line more than any other rule.
  • Do not add player-made trading prices for items. These vary over time, between servers, and from person-to-person. NPC shop prices and resale values, on the other hand, are welcome.
  • Obviously, do not upload or link to offensive materials. If you are in any doubt about whether something is offensive or not, then do not upload/link it at all.
  • Do not make joke pages or non-Mabinogi-related pages (unless put under your user page and clearly marked as such).
  • Do not knowingly make up information to confuse people. Accidents are okay, but if it's on purpose, it will be deleted, and you may be banned.
  • Do not vandalize pages or user pages.
  • Do not edit other users' user pages without express permission, unless it is to fix a formatting error (e.g. broken div tag or use of incorrect character template).
  • Do not make wiki articles for players. Use your User page for that. See below for info on that.
  • Similarly, do not make wiki articles for guilds.
    • As an extension of this rule, do not make user accounts to represent a guild. User accounts are meant for people to contribute to the wiki, not to advertise themselves.
    • Also, do not insert guild adverts into pages, such as where your guildstone is located. Use your User page for that.
  • Do not insert comments into articles. Please use the page's Talk page if you want to talk about an article. The talk page is the "discussion" tab located at the top of the article.
  • There is no need to sign your articles. If you make contributions to this wiki, other people can see the credits in the History tab. It is required by license that whenever the content in this wiki is reused, the contributors should be credited.
  • Custom Pet AIs, while useful, are not wanted on the wiki.
    • If you are using a mod for research (e.g. durability loss rates, combat power), it is fine to report the results, but overall, the wiki does not condone the use of mods and takes no responsibility should you be punished for their use.
    • As an extension of this, please do not confuse modded gameplay with regular, unmodded gameplay (Alby Adv. for Four does not exist, and Gremlins do not drop Summon Friend Capsules).
  • Do not directly paste the results of online translators onto future content pages without editing them for clarity. Nonsensical information is as bad as incorrect information.

Username Policy

We do not allow usernames that are misleading, promotional, offensive or disruptive.

  • Misleading usernames imply relevant, misleading things about the contributor. For example, misleading points of fact, an impression of undue authority, or the suggestion that the account is operated by a guild, group, project or collective rather than one individual.
  • Promotional usernames are advertisements for a company, group, or guild.
  • Offensive usernames make harmonious editing difficult or impossible.
  • Disruptive usernames include outright trolling or personal attacks, impersonation, or otherwise show a clear intent to disrupt Mabinoger Wiki.

These criteria apply to both usernames and signatures. Usernames that are inappropriate in another language, or that represent an inappropriate name with misspellings and substitutions, or do so indirectly or by implication, are still considered inappropriate.

User Page Policy

User Page Policy has changed drastically. See the next section for details. These rules still apply, though.

  • Your user page is located at User:(yourusername). If your username is Bob, your userpage is User:Bob and your User_talk page is User_talk:Bob.
    • Your User page is where you can put some info about yourself. The User_talk page is meant for other wiki users to contact or discuss things with you.
    • Please keep images uploads and space used for your user page to a reasonable amount.
    • The quick way to access your User page is to click your username at the top-right of the page when you are logged in.
  • In general, please do not use templates in your user page. If you must have a monster-like template, use Template:Character. For an NPC-like infobox, please use Template:CharacterInfobox.
    • Exception: If you are an editor testing templates, feel free to use your User page to test them in.
    • You can create sub-pages as a subpage of your user page and include them in your user page like templates, for example: {{User:Kakurady/mytemplate|param=value}}
  • Do not move your User page or User_talk page or make them into real articles. Exception: you may move the page if you are taking on a new username.
  • Do not make pages, other than older usernames, that redirect to your own user page.

NEW User Page Policies

Having a wiki account is primarily meant for players who want to improve the wiki. Due to numerous users registering only to use the wiki as "MySpace: Erinn Edition," new policies have been implemented.

  • If you do not intend to ever contribute knowledge or anything to the wiki, but intend only to make a User Page to show off to your friends, with only info about yourself/your levels/guild/your pets, DO NOT even bother to make an account.
  • Do not upload numerous pictures of yourself, your pets, etc. These have the potential to bog down the wiki server.
    • The limit is 10 pictures totaling up to 3,000KB.
  • Do not be a drama troll. Just enjoy the wiki as a regular user if you can't follow these rules.
  • Every Friday, we will be clearing out user pages at our discretion. If you have contributed to the wiki in a reasonable manner, you will not be at risk, but users who have not contributed anything to the wiki will risk losing their user page and any image(s) associated with the user page.
    • Your page may be deleted if:
      • You have no contributions and very little information on your user page.
      • You only have irrelevant information on your user page.
      • Your user page only consists of short phrases such as, but not limited to, "o_o" or "Hi."
      • Your user page is blank.
      • You have not been active or contributed for 6 months.
    • Your page may be blocked AND deleted if:
      • You have no contributions and a detailed user page about yourself.
      • You are a user only showing yourself off as described above.
    • Unless they aim to improve the article, comments on talk pages do not count as contributions. See also talk page policies.
    • Generally, users will not receive a warning if their user page is up for deletion.
    • We will also be pruning unused files and pictures at this time.

User_talk and other Talk Page Policies

User_talk

  • The User_talk page is to be used to contact other users and for other users to contact you.
  • When you have a new message on your talk page, a bar in orange will notify you at the top of the next wiki page that you view.
  • When talking to and interacting with other users, be respectful. Incivility will not be tolerated.
  • Do not delete other users' talk pages or sections from them, unless it's something you yourself wrote and wish to remove.
  • If any Administrator gives you a warning via your talk page, do not delete it or you risk severe consequences. See Irjustman's user page for more information.
  • Attempting to use your User_talk page as a user page will result in its deletion or movement.
  • If your talk page becomes too long, you may archive it by moving it to a subpage. Example: User_talk:Bob/Archive01.

Talk

  • An article's talk page is meant to discuss what should be done with the article.
  • Generally, do not use a talk page to ask game-related questions, unless it is meant to improve the article.
    • Don't ask to know when something will be implemented in-game. We aren't Nexon, and we generally don't know. If the Generation is known, it will be listed in the Future Content box on the top of the page.
  • Leaving comments on article talk pages that are not aimed to improve the article do not count as contributions. Your user page will still be deleted if you only contribute to talk pages with no intention of bettering the article.
  • Leave a signature after all comments by using four tildes (~~~~).
    • All signatures should have at the least a link back to your user page and the date of when the comment was added.
      • If your signature is not linking to your page, go to "my preferences" and uncheck the box for "Treat signature as wikitext."
  • Do not use all caps in your communications with others.

Image Policy

In order to keep the Mabinogi World Wiki looking clean and professional and conserve space, we have introduced an image policy. Images that do not comply with any one of these rules are subject to be deleted or replaced without warning.

  • Do not upload images that are not going to be used by any wiki page. This place is not the equivalent of ImageShack or similar image hosting servers.
  • Do not upload images unrelated to Mabinogi.
  • Do not upload images with large file sizes in comparison to the resolution. This is to help save space.
  • Do not upload images that are edited poorly in simple applications such as MS Paint onto informational articles. If you do not have a better image editing program or a sense of tidiness, ask someone who does to help you.
  • Do not upload images that are terribly compressed or pixilated. We understand that screenshots directly from the game are already partially compressed. Having pictures of at least that quality is fine.
  • Do not upload images that blatantly show mods within them.
  • Limit on image resolutions is 1024 x 768 pixels maximum. A couple of exceptions are the World Maps.
  • If you are uploading item icons, please save them as gif or png, not jpg.
    • Additionally don't upload full-black/full-white icons since these can't be seen very well.
  • Please make all file extensions lower case (use .jpg not .JPG, for example).
  • To prevent bias and using the wiki as a "way to gain fame" in user-uploaded screenshots:
    • Hide your username (Ctrl + N). This does not apply to user page-related images. Blotting out or blurring your name does not serve as an alternative.
    • Avoid wearing guild robes.
  • If it can be helped, it is preferred that you exclude your character from the image entirely if you are trying to illustrate aspects of the game. The wiki is a public resource that is meant to inform—not function as a character showcase. There are obvious exceptions (size comparisons, showing clothing, showing skills in action, etc.).
  • Pictures from character simulators are accepted, but they may be replaced eventually because color sets available there are not available in-game.
    • Do not use the Style Studio charsim. Its images are grainy and not of a proper quality.

In addition, images that are meant to show certain items as they appear in-game (such as equipment) should:

  • Emphasize the content, not the player equipping them.
    • As such, avoid having a spirit weapon or Glove of Extravaganza equipped since these have distracting effects.
  • Be taken in good lighting with the "Glow Effect" turned off in Options.
    • Two places that will always have perfect lighting and will allow free camera movement are the Dunbarton School and Rundal Dungeon lobby. Please take equipment photos here if the lighting outside is insufficient or if there is a horrible glare.
  • Be taken without distractingly busy backgrounds (players, player shops, pets, etc. in the background).
  • Be taken at a large enough resolution so that the equipment's details may be viewed on the full picture (after the image thumbnail is clicked). See Admiral Coat (F) for a good example.
  • Avoid a purely monochromatic, full-white, full-black, and/or white/black color scheme. With these color sets, it is difficult to distinguish between the dye-able parts and the gears' details are usually lost. Even if only one part is black or white, we don't want it if it makes intricate parts of the clothing difficult or impossible to see.
  • Avoid wearing other distracting or in-the-way gears (weapons, shields).
    • Do not wear gloves or shoes if you are displaying clothing that covers the hands or feet (such as dan uniforms).
    • If you are displaying long gloves or boots, do not wear a robe or long-sleeved clothing that covers part of the glove or boot.
  • Do not have your character use Gestures.

Make sure that your images convey the game accurately and aesthetically.

Video Policy

  • Videos should be made specifically for the wiki.
    • In effect, don't link videos without the author(s)' knowledge and permission.
  • As with pictures, ctrl+n must be used to hide character names.
  • Please have the chat window disabled in the in-game options.
  • Do not show videos with mods in them.
  • Do not show videos of in-game glitches.
  • Do not add your own soundtrack.
    • Ideally, the music should either be muted, or the in-game music should be playing at a lower volume than the sound effects, if sound effects are important to what is being presented. The volumes can be changed in the in-game options.
  • Videos should not be used for decoration. To demonstrate a skill or mini-game is acceptable, for example, but showing off clothing is not.
  • Videos from foreign servers may be used but should ideally be replaced when the content is out in EU.
  • To show a youtube video on a page, use the {{youtube|}} template, placing the video's youtube ID after the |.
    • Usage example: {{youtube|YbaTur4A1OU}}.

Banning

  • Obvious spam-bots will be perma-banned on sight.
  • If you do not follow the rules, you will usually receive a warning in your User_talk page. If you do not heed the warning within a few minutes, you are likely to be temporarily banned.
    • In some cases there will not be warnings at all.
  • In some extreme cases, offending users may be given a null-route ban. With such a ban, the user may not access the wiki at all, even for simple browsing. This ban may be given without warning.
  • Please bear in mind that removal of null-route bans--bans at the operating system level which prevent any contact whatsoever with the server, including even merely browsing the wiki--is entirely at the server owner's sole discretion.
  • The Wiki Admin Team reserves the right to ban users for reasons not yet addressed on this page.
